On January 11, the China Automobile Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the "China Automobile Association") released the production and sales data show that in 2017, the annual production and sales of automobiles were 29.015 million vehicles and 28.887 million vehicles, an increase of 3.2% and 3% respectively year-on-year. In 2016, China's auto production and sales completed 28.119 million vehicles and 28.058 million vehicles, respectively, an increase of 14.5% and 13.7% year-on-year. Although the auto market only achieved slight growth in 2017, the development momentum of new energy vehicles last year was strong, with production and sales close to 800,000 units, achieving both domestic and international market growth.

According to the data, in December 2017, both the production and sales of automobiles exceeded 3 million, and the sales volume showed a slight increase year-on-month and year-on-year, and the output declined. In December last year, automobile production was 304.14 million units, which was a decrease of 1.26% from the previous period and a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%. Sales volume was 3.0603 million units, an increase of 3.47% from the previous period and an increase of 0.1% year-on-year. Among them, passenger car production was 2,609,700 units, a decrease of 2.23% compared with the previous period and a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%. Sales volume was 2,653,300 units, an increase of 2.46% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year decrease of 0.71%. The production of commercial vehicles was 431,800 units, an increase of 5% from the previous period and a year-on-year increase of 3.11%; sales of 407,000 units were up 10.56% from the previous period and a year-on-year increase of 5.7%.

For the whole year of 2017, a total of 24,718,300 passenger vehicles were sold, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, with the growth rate falling 13.53% from the previous year. Among them, sales of basic passenger cars (sedans) amounted to 11.84 million, which was a year-on-year decrease of 2.48%; sales of sports multi-purpose passenger cars (SUVs) were 10.2527 million, an increase of 13.32% year-on-year; sales of multi-function passenger vehicles (MPVs) were 207.07. Ten thousand vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 17.05%; sales of cross-type passenger cars were 547,700, a year-on-year decrease of 19.97%.

It is worth noting that, in 2017, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were nearly 800,000, reaching 794,000 vehicles and 777,000 vehicles, respectively, an increase of 53.8% and 53.3% year-on-year respectively, and the year-on-year growth of production and sales volume increased by 2.1 and 0.3 percentage points respectively. . In 2017, the new energy auto market accounted for 2.7%, which was an increase of 0.9% from the previous year.

CAAC stated that in 2017 China’s auto industry is facing certain pressure. Affected by the reduction in the preferential rate of purchase tax, the passenger car market has advanced overdraft in 2016, and the growth rate of production and sales of passenger cars in 2017 has slowed down significantly. At the same time, Xu Haidong, Assistant Secretary-General of the China Automobile Industry Association, said that in 2018, the growth rate of the auto industry will continue to slow down. It is expected that the growth rate of passenger vehicles in 2018 will be about 3%.

The industry generally believes that, in view of comprehensive factors, China's auto market may see a growth rate of around 4% in 2018. At the same time, new energy vehicles will continue to be a bright spot in the smooth growth auto market as in 2017, and the production and sales will reach 1 million.
