Whether the mine is open-pit or underground, or joint mining, should be determined according to the specific conditions of each deposit, and if necessary, comprehensive technical and economic comparison and analysis. Generally speaking, the production labor conditions for open pit mining are better than those for underground mining, and the recovery rate of mineral resources is relatively high. In the case where the economic benefits are not much different, open-pit mining should be considered as much as possible.
For underground mining, according to the form of wells, it can be divided into Pingyi development, inclined well development and shaft development. The development method should consider the first flat well, the second inclined well and the rear vertical shaft.

(ii) Technical requirements
Open pit mining
The production stripping ratio or average stripping ratio should be less than the economic reasonable stripping ratio: according to the surrounding rock type, hardness coefficient, the slope angle of the final stage of the open pit is about 65°; the final slope angle is generally 37°~47°; Height: small 8 ~ 10m, large and medium 10 ~ 12m, sometimes large mines can also use 12 ~ 15m; safety platform is generally greater than 2m; cleaning platform is generally 6 ~ 12m; transport platform (automobile): load capacity 7t, 20t, 32t Car, platform width single line 8, 9, 10m, double line 11.5, 13, 14.5m.
2. Underground mining
Underground mining should pay attention to the following issues:
1) The position of the wellhead and the concrete raft should ensure that its structures are not affected by surface collapse, landslides and flash floods. The height of the wellhead should generally be above 1~3m in the highest flood level in previous years.
2) wellbore (or adit) position generally located outside the mining moving belt, or should leave the security pillar, should be considered less surface and pit engineering, construction fast, and reach the small beneficiation plant traffic.
3) Each mine should have two safe exits to the surface; the main outlets of the mine (flat, inclined, and shaft) should generally be considered for a certain amount of spare lifting and transport capacity.
4) Under normal circumstances, the main wells should be arranged in the lower part of the ore body so that it can be used for a long time. Only when the engineering geological conditions of the lower plate are bad, the main wells are arranged on the upper plate.
5) When determining the main section of the mine, in addition to considering the production capacity, equipment dimensions and necessary clearances, the laying requirements of ventilation, drainage, compressed air lines and power supply lines should also be considered. Large mines should have a certain number of pipes and cables reserved for expansion.
6) Mines located in the earthquake zone should be listed as an important part of the design.
According to the characteristics of the occurrence of sulfur and iron ore deposits in the surrounding rock, the vast majority of the use of underground mining, a small open-pit mining. Sulfur mines suitable for open pit mining include: Guangdong Yunfu Pyrite Mine, Yingde Pyrite Mine and Diaoyutai Pyrite Mine in Wulian County, Shandong Province.
The underground mining of pyrite mainly adopts the caving method, including the sublevel caving method with bottom column, the sublevel caving method without bottom column, and the stratified caving method. The open field method mining, ie the subsection mining method, is also used.
The Shandong natural sulfur deposit adopts the underground melting mining method and is still in the trial mining stage. The natural sulfur mines in Qinghai, Tibet and Xinjiang are all small-scale mining areas. Except for small-scale mining in the Qinghai sulfurous mountain mining area, the rest have not yet been exploited.
