Moisture-proof box was originated from Japan and gained great development in Taiwan. In 1983, the first electronic moisture-proof box was born. In the past ten years, the electronic moisture-proof box developed at a high speed. One hundred schools of thought contend and unique features. The moisture-proof box is now synonymous with dr-storage.
Good electronic drying box is fanless, no noise, no damp, no frost, no thermal effect, stable dehumidification, humidity can be set by yourself, prevention is better than cure, and photographic equipment, lenses, binoculars, photos, film, etc. Affected by mold, value for money.
Using a simple sealed plastic box can quickly dehumidify, but there are two major drawbacks:
1. It will quickly absorb moisture in your moisture-proof box to below 10%. Too little humidity (usually 30% or less) will cause organic matter on the camera to be debonded and cracked due to excessive drying, such as rubber, leather, etc. In the long term, the lubricant in the mechanical part will dry out. Molds can grow at a humidity of 60%, and explosive growth can occur between 70% and 90%. Therefore, the minimum humidity for the camera should not be less than 40%, and the maximum should not exceed 60%, with 40% to 50% being the best.
2. Some hygroscopic absorbents contain calcium chloride ingredients, which are hydrolyzed with calcium chloride after wet, and there will be a small amount of chlorine gas to escape. Chlorine is strong oxidizing and easily corrodes the equipment. In addition, the use of this desiccant should pay attention to a bit: After a long time, there is a certain amount of liquid in the desiccant container, be careful not to knock it down, otherwise it will never flow to the camera!
According to the International Camera Industry Association, mildew will stop growing when the temperature is below 10°C or below 60% RH. However, precious lenses, cameras, expensive instruments, samples, or blood crystals are destroyed in the event of dampness and mildew. Therefore, the use of moisture-proof boxes to store valuable items is your best choice.
