OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has developed a high-power LED - the Oslon Compact CL with color coordinates that are specifically tailored to TFT displays and associated white dots. It uses a ceramic converter that ensures constant color trajectory even at high temperatures. Featuring a 1mm2 chip, this high-power light source offers a very compact package and is the perfect choice for head-up displays.

Previously only the flagship model will be equipped with head-up display, and now has gradually become the standard configuration of many common models. This is because, for the driver, the benefits of head-up display are obvious: to reduce driver distractions and thereby increase safety. The current speed, alarm information, satellite navigation guidelines, infotainment data and other information are all directly displayed in the head-up range of sight, without the driver diverting attention, you can grasp the important information to ensure safe driving.

The quality of the HUD depends very much on the light source used. TFT display with white LED as light source adopts full color display, excellent performance and excellent contrast ratio. The Oslon Compact CL has a 1mm2 chip built into it, and its many features make it an ideal light source for head-up displays. The LED package is extremely compact, measuring only 1.9mmx1.5mmx0.75mm, can be very closely arranged in the TFT display (<100μm). Therefore, not only is the high luminous efficiency, excellent optical characteristics, and the low mounting height, it is undoubtedly a great advantage for valuable interior space.

The color coordinates of the Oslon Compact CL are cx0.28 / cy0.25, and the light emitted is light blue and white. The TFT display filters out the blue component, leaving the entire spectrum of light pure white. As ceramic components, Oslon Compact CL's low thermal resistance, only 8K / W. The heat generated can quickly dissipate, keeping the color coordinates constant even at high temperatures. In addition, color shift does not occur and color development is excellent.

Oslon Compact CL (Lambert-type light source, light-emitting angle of 120 °). It can be used as a stand-alone light source or as a 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, or 2x4 compact lamp set with other LEDs. This means that different lumen packages can be provided to meet a variety of brightness needs. The typical luminous flux of a single LED is 260lm and 350lm respectively when the operating current is 1A and 1.5A. With such a high light output, the Oslon Compact CL is also suitable for the next generation of head-up displays, which will help provide more information (augmented reality) in the driver's head-of-head range.
