A machine that delivers or pressurizes liquids. In a broad sense, a pump is a machine that carries or pressurizes a fluid, including some that convey gas. The pump transmits the energy of the prime mover's mechanical energy or other energy to the liquid to increase the energy of the liquid.

From 1851 to 1875, multistage centrifugal pumps with guide vanes were successively invented, making it possible to develop high-lift centrifugal pumps. Subsequently, a variety of pumps have come out.
