Professor Ratcliffe said that after heating the urine samples, the instruments they developed were used to analyze the gaseous chemicals released by the samples. Of the 98 test samples, 24 were from male bladder cancer patients and 74 were from men with bladder problems but no cancer.

Professor Prubert said that they need more samples to further test the accuracy of the instrument.
