In the air conditioning equipment, heating pipes, oil pipelines, chemical equipment, power systems, mortar and other industrial processes, the pump power consumption accounted for the main part of the system energy consumption. Therefore, how to minimize pump work is the main means by which these systems reduce energy consumption and increase transportation capacity, and are also important problems that plague enterprises.
In the 1920s, British scientist Tom found that adding certain substances to the liquid can change the flow inside the tube from turbulence to laminar flow, thus greatly reducing the resistance of the conveying pipe. This is the friction drag reduction technology. However, what Tom realizes is the fact that in the 1970s, the United States used this technology for the first time in an oil pipeline from Alaska to its homeland, with the surprising result that it can be delivered with the same oil pump The amount of crude oil increased by 50% or more!
The success of this application has stimulated the academic and engineering research fever on this technology. Unfortunately, the United States added polymers to the pipeline. Due to the long molecular chain of the polymer, it breaks rapidly under the shear of the pump body, and as a result, the polymer can not be used in a system where multiple cycles are repeated.
For this reason, Japanese research institutes succeeded in developing a new type of drag reducing agent using a surfactant in the late 1990s. The drag reducer not only has a higher drag reduction effect than the polymer, but also, based on the self-healing function of the surfactant, the drag reducer can be reused for a long time in a circulatory flow system.
