Take Huizhong as the basic point to develop independent brands

As SAIC's earliest spare parts and heavy truck manufacturing plants, SAIC Huizhong has become the "vanguard" of SAIC to enter commercial vehicles. On December 14th, SAIC Huizhong attacked the heavy truck market with a groundbreaking move and carried a high-profile debut of the shark series heavy trucks under its “land fleet” heavy truck brand.

General Manager Zhang Hong of SAIC Huizhong introduced that for the development trend of domestic heavy-duty truck market, Huizhong has fully integrated the existing heavy-duty truck product line, and will have a series of extremely powerful markets for its tractors, dump trucks and trucks. The competitive heavy trucks are grouped together under the brand name of the "Land Fleet", which indicates that SAIC Huizhong is participating in a new round of competition in the heavy truck market.

As the base point for SAIC's commercial vehicles, Huizhong is also the object of SAIC's efforts to create its own brand. Huizhong has hired a number of engineering and technical personnel from South Korea, and has absorbed domestic automotive research and development personnel to jointly develop collaboratively.

On December 16, SAIC signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Iveco and Chongqing Heavy Duty Truck in Chongqing. This marks that SAIC Motor’s model of “Integrating global resources to become bigger and stronger” will be applied to the commercial vehicle field, pushing the heavy-duty truck industry to a new level with advanced technology and excellent management.

According to the agreement, Chongqing Zhongqi Shangqi Iveco transferred 67% of the equity in Chongqing Hongyan. At the same time, the three parties will establish an engine company in Chongqing to produce Iveco technology heavy-duty vehicle diesel engines and other engineering supporting machinery. By 2008, there will be two classes of production capacity of 40,000 vehicles/year and 30,000 engines.

Xiao Guopu, vice president of SAIC’s commercial vehicle division, pointed out in an interview with this reporter that SAIC will focus on passenger vehicles and take commercial vehicles as its breakthrough, insisting on a pattern that emphasizes both.

Xiao Guopu revealed that during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, SAIC will invest about 10 billion yuan in research and development funds, of which 15% will be used in the commercial vehicle sector.
