On November 4, Volkswagen Tianjin Parts Factory announced the completion of the production of the latest generation of advanced dual-clutch transmission DQ380, to achieve the first production of the product in the world. The new plant will initially have an annual production capacity of 450,000 transmissions, and will increase production capacity to 1.2 million units by 2016. By 2019, the new factory will create 5,500 new jobs. The first phase of the Volkswagen Tianjin plant will invest 265 million euros (about 2.2 billion yuan), which will effectively promote the local economic development.
Prof.Dr. Jochem Heizmann, member of the Management Board of Volkswagen Group and President and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China), stated that “Investment in the establishment of a new Tianjin parts plant means that Volkswagen continues to develop technology and save fuel. Play a pioneering role."
The DQ380 transmission developed specifically for the Chinese market will be produced for the first time in Tianjin. In line with the third-generation EA888 new engine produced by the Changchun and Shanghai Engine Plants, Volkswagen will reduce the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers of the relevant models by 0.5 liters from the previous generation and reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by 12 grams/km. The reporter learned that the DQ380 transmission is an advanced 7-speed wet dual clutch transmission, which will be the first to be carried on Shanghai Volkswagen Lingdu and FAW-VW Audi A3. In addition, another more advanced DQ500 transmission will begin mass production at the plant in January 2016.
After the full production of the Tianjin plant, Volkswagen will be able to carry a new transmission for more than 1 million vehicles in the Chinese market each year, in conjunction with advanced engines, so as to optimize fuel efficiency and make greater contributions to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The dual-clutch transmission produced at the Tianjin plant is specially produced for the Chinese market, and will be used in various models of the Volkswagen Group in the Chinese market in the future. The new generation of dual clutch transmissions will help Volkswagen become the most sustainable automaker in 2018.
After 2016, the test and analysis center responsible for all the dual clutch transmissions produced in China will also be established in Tianjin. This marks another move by the Volkswagen Group to develop its expertise in China to ensure the unified quality of the Group worldwide. Standards promote the sustainable development of China's auto industry.
The newly-built factory is located in Tianjin TEDA Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is the 107th factory of the Volkswagen Group and its 18th factory in China. After the completion of the Tianjin new plant, the Volkswagen Group has eight complete vehicle production plants and ten parts production plants in China. In order to continue to expand the scale of automobile production, Shanghai Volkswagen has started construction of a new factory in Changsha, and FAW-Volkswagen will also build two new auto factories in Qingdao and Tianjin.
