Amarcon, a subsidiary of ABB Group, has announced that it has received orders to install a total of 11 OCTOPUS marine systems for heavy lift vessels of Cosco Heavy Transport and BigLift Shipping in the Netherlands.
It is reported that the order from COSCO is based on the results of COSCO's repeated application of the OCTOPUS marine system. As early as March 2012, the “m/v Tai An Kou” ship installed the OCTOPUS marine system solution for monitoring platform transportation. Then the system was installed several times in 2012-2013. The COSCO has 5 heavy-lift vessels permanently installed with 5 sets of OCTOPUS marine systems, with dynamic monitoring, early warning response, weather decision support and evaluation. Amarcon's dynamic monitoring system TMS-3 was also installed.
The Dutch heavy haul transporter BigLift Shipping also ordered six sets of OCTOPUS marine systems similar to those of COSCO. The company currently operates 13 special heavy-lift ships, and in 2009 four ships began installing the system.
The OCTOPUS product line is part of ABB's Marine Information and Control (VICO) system and is integrated with a complete automation and consulting solution for maritime applications. ABB acquired Amarcon in August 2012 to expand its marine software offering capabilities.
