Singapore researchers have recently developed a new seawater desalination membrane distillation system that has significantly increased production efficiency.

It is reported that the filter membrane of this system adopts a multi-layer overlapping design, which combines the water-absorbing and non-absorbing filter membranes together to increase the production efficiency of the filtered water. In addition, the energy consumption of the solar-powered system energy is less than 1.5 kilowatts, which is nearly half that of the conventional membrane distillation system's 4 kilowatts.

The actual operating results show that the system can filter about 500 liters of fresh water per day, with less than 15 impurities in the water.
