According to the characteristics of the tailings, the Maanshan mine research proposed a fine sieve-strong magnetic-flotation process to recover iron carbonate in the tailings. The expansion of the continuous selection experiment has achieved good results. The experimental study was completed in April 1997 by the expert review organized by the Ministry of Metallurgy.
The tailings of the plant are the weak magnetic separation integrated tailings in the current production process. The multi-element chemical analysis, iron phase analysis and particle size composition analysis of the tailings are shown in Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3, respectively.

Because the tailings have lower iron grades and higher silicon content, but the calcium and magnesium contents are also high, the key to the iron carbonate recovery technology is the efficient separation of iron carbonate minerals and iron-containing silicate minerals.
According to the results of small experiments, the proposed serialization test process is screening-strong magnetic separation-flotation. The purpose of the screening operation is to screen out the coarse fraction of +0.15mm which is not suitable for flotation. The magnetic field strength of strong magnetic separation is 800kA/m. The flotation is a rough selection, three selections, and the middle mine returns to the previous one. The operation uses water glass as a dispersion inhibitor, Ps-18 (a mixed collector based on petroleum sulfonate) as the main collector, supplemented with a small amount of fatty acid collector, and sulfuric acid as a pH adjuster. That is, the flotation is weakly acidic and positive flotation. The dosages of various chemicals are: water glass 129g/t, Ps-18 630g/t, fatty acid 50g/t, sulfuric acid 585g/t, flotation concentration 30%~40%. Preferably, the temperature of the slurry is controlled at 25 to 30 ° C. The process of the final recommended iron carbonate recovery industry is shown in Figure 1.

The test results show that iron concentrate with more than 35% iron content (more than 52% after burning) with SiO 2 content less than 5% and alkali ratio greater than 3 can be obtained, and the total iron recovery rate can be increased by more than 15 percentage points. Economic analysis, the mine has 3.8 million tons of raw ore, 64.000 tons of concentrate containing 64.5% of iron, and 2.82 million tons of tailings. The tailings can be re-selected to increase the yield of 35.3% of ultra-high alkalinity iron. The concentrate is 530,000 tons, which can increase the annual output value of the concentrator to about 86.623 million yuan, and the annual increase benefit is about 40.185 million yuan.
